When it comes to toilets, there are a few manufacturers that you know bring their A game when it comes to comfort and reliability. One of those is Toto, and this Drake II high efficiency toilet is a great option when it comes to choosing a toilet with a taller seat.

Product Overview

As a high-efficiency model, this toilet exceeds the EPA WaterSense guidelines and uses only 1.28 gallons per flush. This toilet isn’t just in compliance with the EPA; it also passes the much stricter guidelines of the California Green Building Code and the Los Angeles City Water Efficiency Ordinance.

The rim height is a towering 16-1/8 inches above the floor, and when you add in a seat, that means you are looking at about 18-inches as the sit down height. That’s a great comfort when you are an adult. If you have any small children, it is worth investing in a step stool for them to use to avoid any accidents.

TOTO CST454CEFG#01 Drake II Toilet

  • Cotton White
  • 12 inches Rough-In
  • Powerful, quiet flush every time
  • Why we like it: With every flush, this comfort height toilet uses 20% less water than most standard 1.6-gallon toilets.

Other features of the Drake II include Toto’s CeFiOntect System, which applies a super slick surface to the bowl. That coating on the porcelain means that not only will solids not stick, but stains won’t penetrate to the ceramic underneath. It also has an elongated bowl which adds to comfort when seating.

The dimensions of the Drake II mean that it will fit in most bathrooms. The footprint of the Drake II is 17-1/4 inches wide by 30 inches tall, by 28-1/2 inches deep. It requires a standard 12-inch rough in. The bowl has a generous 7-1/8 by 9-1/8 inch water surface, which means that solid waste will hit water and not the dry ceramic.

The Toto Drake II is available in five distinct colors and finishes.

● #01 Cotton
● #03 Bone
● #11 Colonial White
● #12 Sedona Beige
● #51 Ebony (Without CEFIONTECT glaze)

What Is Comfort Height?

A comfort height toilet is one that has the seat at about the same height as a standard dining room or office chair. This usually falls in the range between 17 inches and 21 inches above floor level. This is also the height required for a toilet seat to be considered in compliance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA).

When it comes to who can benefit from comfort height seating, the answer is pretty much everyone. Sometimes an older person has trouble getting up and sitting down. A comfort height toilet reduces the distance they have to travel to sit down and stand up. By adding a thicker seat, a user can increase the height of the seat as well. Some people who can benefit from a comfort height seat are:

● The elderly
● Mobility challenged handicapped people
● Taller adults

For a large number of the adult and aging population, a high rise toilet is a good option. It will reduce falls, enhance comfort, and give more self-confidence.

In some cases, a comfort height toilet can be a challenge for smaller children to use, but that inconvenience can be mitigated by use of a step stool.

Toto Technologies That Improve Their Toilets

Toto brings several great innovations to their toilets that help make them a great purchase decision. One of these is the way they protect their china. Their toilets are all made of vitreous china, but they get a non-porous glaze called CeFiOntect.

This glazing produces an ultra-smooth finish that minimizes any debris from sticking. That means that flushing is more effective in cleaning. That translates into easier cleaning for owners, which means a better result for the environment because of less water and fewer chemicals used.

Another proprietary technology that Toto has in their toilets is the Tornado Flush system. This uses two nozzles that are located on either side of the bowl instead of holes underneath the rim. As the 1.28 gallons of water is released from the large valve, it creates a cyclonic cleaning action.

The water swirls in a counter-clockwise direction which propels the water around the bowl instead of straight down. This swirling motion picks up all the debris and waste in the bowl, sweeping it all away quickly and cleanly.

● Elongated Bowl improves comfort while sitting down
● 16-1/8 inch rim height is fully ADA compliant for elderly and mobility challenged
● CeFiOntect glaze protects bowl and trapway from staining
● Tornado Flushing system quickly sweeps away waste
● High Efficiency flush uses only 1.28 gallons per flush

● Does not come with a seat
● Higher Purchase Price may place this model out of reach of some homeowners

If you need a toilet with a taller rim and a taller seat, then this Toto Drake II is definitely an option to consider. With the patented CeFiOntect glazing and Tornado Flush technology, you’re not just getting comfort; you’re also getting a toilet that will stay clean. As a mid-range toilet with some really nice features and the Toto name, this model will serve you well for a long time.

Not only does it add significant value to your home, but it also costs a fair amount to do.
