When you’re looking for a new toilet for a smaller space, it can be difficult to find one that looks good and performs equally well. Building codes in most towns and cities require 21 inches of clearance in front of a toilet, and getting that much room can be impossible in smaller rooms. But what if you could find a toilet where you could get rid of about a foot of material? That’s where wall mounted toilets come in. Let us show you how this Duravit Starck 3 can be the answer to all your space-starved needs.

Product Overview

The Duravit Starck 3 222609 wall hung toilet is part of Duravit’s signature Starck 3 line of bathroom fixtures. It has a sleek modern look that is common with all of the Starck 3 products. It’s important to note that this is just the wall-mounted bowl. It does not come with a seat, lid, or the tank and carrier.

Duravit 2225090092

  • Wash-down model
  • Wall mounted toilet
  • Dura Fix 2 Assembly
  • Why we like it: Its installation is easy and to the point and the hardware will be concealed once you have everything installed.

That being said, this toilet will fit into a very small space. Its dimensions are 14-3/8 inches wide by 24-3/8 inches deep. Because the toilet is wall mounted, you can set it at any height you choose, from the standard 15-inches to the ADA-compliant comfort seat height of 17-20 inches.

The Starck 3 is available with a special WonderGliss coating that is designed to keep the toilet cleaner. WonderGliss is a non-glossy finish that is hard baked onto the ceramic. The finish is extra smooth, so dirt and waste don’t adhere or stick as easily.

Because this is a wall mounted toilet, sometimes the water level is not as high as in standard floor mounted units. This means that normal business will sometimes not be flushed away completely or cleanly if you opt out of the WonderGliss upgrade. A dual flush option helps to prevent that from happening, so that’s always an advisable option.

How Do Wall-Mounted Toilets Work?

Toilets that are wall mounted started in Europe but have become more and more common in the United States. They have gained traction, especially in businesses and homes where people are remodeling their bathrooms and want a new unique look.

When you look at this toilet, you might wonder if it is a tankless model. But it isn’t. Wall mounted toilets have tanks, but they are kept inside the wall away from hidden eyes. The tanks for wall mounted toilets are usually plastic and held in a metal carrier that is installed between two studs. Most are capable of supporting up to 880 pounds or more, provided that they are properly installed. But wall mounted toilets are great for a few reasons:

● It is easy to keep the floor clean because there is no base to try to clean behind
● Seat is able to be mounted at any height you desire
● Can be installed in much smaller spaces than a regular toilet

The waste drain for a wall mounted toilet is located at the back, as is the water inlet. One challenge is that because everything is installed inside of the wall, repairs can be a challenge. Sometimes, people will install a custom access hatch to allow access to the tank and works without having to break through the wall again. Otherwise, it is standard for access to the tank to be through the flush button panel.

Most wall mounted toilets are EPA compliant when it comes to the amount of water they use per flush. That is determined by the tank, but a lot of bowls are designed for dual flushing. Dual flushing is a way to use less water when you don’t need to use a full flush. In most cases, the two modes use 0.8 gallons for a half-flush and 1.6 gallons for a full flush. The only drawback is that people who aren’t familiar with a dual flush system may not know which mode to use when.

● Very compact model that can be installed virtually anywhere
● Looks very modern
● No base means cleaning underneath the toilet is easy
● Seat height is fully adjustable
● Ceramic is very easy to care for

● Wall-mounted units are very expensive compared to standard models
● Installation requires adjusting most plumbing and ensuring studs can hold the full weight of the bowl and user

As you can see, this Duravit Starck 3 wall mounted toilet is a great choice for when you don’t have a lot of space. Not only that, but it allows you to pick a seat height that is most comfortable for you and your family. With the bevy of features that the Starck 3 has, you’re sure to be pleased with it. Hello. My name is Charles. I have been in the home improvement industry for a number of years. One of the most important renovations that home owners can make is a bathroom upgrade. Not only does it add significant value to your home, but it also costs a fair amount to do. Bathroom renovations are not frequently undertaken so choosing your sanitaryware can be source of enjoyment or regret for years to come. This is definitely the case for toilets.
